Red Coats and Brown Pants

During a war between Britain and France, French soldiers captured an English Major. The French General asked him, "Why do you English officers wear red coats? Doesn't that make you easier targets?"

The Major replied, "We wear red so that if we are shot, the blood won't show and our men won't panic."

From that day forward, all French Army officers started wearing brown pants.
